Synopsis

Set in the colorful and authentic streets of Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, the story follows 17-year-old Ali, a fiery teen’s quest for identity amid her cautious single mother’s protective eye. Follow Ali as she rebels and discovers her musical gift through piano lessons with her sage mentor, Miss Liza Jane, and sparks a love story with street drummer Knuck. Conflicts rise with family drama involving her estranged father, Davis. Through triumphs and challenges, Ali learns to accept her expression, her origins, and the neighborhood that shapes her. This universal and relatable coming-of-age journey is packed with spirit, connection, and the power of music.

The show garnered 13 Tony Award nominations in 2024, winning Best Actress in a Leading Role for Maleah Joi Moon and Best Featured Actress for Kecia Lewis. In 2025, it secured the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.
