Last year, Gladys Knight was honored at the Kennedy Center of Honors in Washington, D.C., for her contributions to American culture and arts. She was honored alongside other esteemed performers like Amy Grant, George Clooney, and Tania Elon. This is just one of Gladys Night’s most prestigious accolades she has received throughout her five-decade career. During the ‘60s through the ‘00s, Knight released numerous massive hits, including her number 1 single under Gladys Knight and the Pips, “Midnight Train to Georgia,” and her solo single “That’s What Friends Are For.”
During her time with the Pips, Knight has released several chart-performing hits. She achieved unprecedented success and earned several awards, including being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001. Knight pursued a phenomenal solo career during the late ‘70s. She released her debut album, Miss Gladys Knight, in 1978 and achieved moderate success. By 1991, she finally broke into the Billboard 200 and topped the R&B chart with her third effort, Good Woman. The album spawned the hit single “Superwoman,” which featured Dionne Warwick and Patti LaBelle. Lastly, Knight is a seven-time Grammy Award winner. She won three Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals with the Pips and four awards through her solo and collaboration singles.
