The word "legend" is often overused, but never in the case of bona fide blues legend Buddy Guy, whose career has influenced the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, John Mayer and Stevie Ray Vaughan! Guy comes to Eccles Theater on Saturday 30th March 2019 to promote his most recent album, The Blues Is Alive and Well! The iconic performer will be joined in support by fellow blues-rock guitarist extraordinaire Jimmie Vaughan!

Noted blues guitarist and singer Buddy Guy in the early 1950s, performing with bands in Baton Rouge, before moving to Chicago, where he began performing with Muddy Waters as a house guitarist at Chess Records and struck up a partnership with harmonica player Junior Wells. A major influence on some of the greatest guitarists of all time, including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton (Clapton has described him as "the best guitar player alive"), Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, John Mayer and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Guy's career was reinvigorated in the late 1980s and early 1990s, helped in part by Clapton, who invited him to be part of the "24 Nights" all-star blues guitar line-up at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1991. A highly-awarded artist, he has won 23 W.C. Handy Awards, Billboard magazine's Century Award (he was its second recipient) for distinguished artistic achievement, the title of Greatest Living Electric Blues Guitarist, and seven Grammy Awards throughout his career, and in 2003 he was presented with the National Medal of Arts, which is awarded by the President of the United States to "those who have made extraordinary contributions to the creation, growth and support of the arts in the United States." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 14, 2005, by Eric Clapton and B.B. King, and he is also an inductee of the  Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. Guy was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012.
