The original production, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff and choreographed by fellow Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo, opened in Berekely Repertory Theater in California. After wrapping up in Berkeley, the musical had several performances in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and Toronto. In 2019, the musical finally opened on Broadway.
